North American Celtic Studies Student Conference

Unfortunately, due to the timing of the conference, it appears that attendance is difficult for many people. Several possible attendees and presenters have indicated their interest but offer their regrets at being unable to attend at that time. This means that the conference WILL NOT be held in May 2013, but rather, will be pushed to February 2014. A call for papers will be re-issued in the fall and registration for attendance will begin shortly after. 

We encourage you to check back here in September for the new schedule and forms as well as more news. In the meantime, we hope you spread the word about this great opportunity to further your participation in the field of Celtic Studies and to share your work with your peers. See you in February!

North American Celtic Studies Student Conference 

The University of Ottawa Celtic Club is pleased to announce it will be hosting the first annual North American Celtic Studies Student Conference from May 31st to June 2nd, 2013, at the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Canada. This event is an initiative by the student club in an effort to encourage students from all levels of study to share their research interests and efforts with like-minded students from other institutions.

We encourage students from upper years to submit their papers for presentation as a good opportunity to present their work to a body of peers; this may be excellent practice for future studies. Additionally, we encourage students from lower years to also submit their papers for presentation since the conference is intended to share projects that deal with various Celtic themes; we are not only seeking papers which present original research – well-written, interesting papers dealing with secondary research are very much welcome as well.

Themes in Celtic Studies are quite numerous: papers may present research on the history, language, culture, or other aspect of the six Celtic nations, the Ancient Celts, and any other topics which fall under the wide umbrella of Celtic Studies.

We are now accepting proposals for the 2013 conference and so, please find the file at the bottom of this page. Proposals are due by May 6th, 2013 and notification of decision will be made on May 13th, 2013. Additionally, the fees and schedule sheet is also to be found at the bottom of this page. We encourage you to register as early as possible. Registration can be done through the form on the Registration tab at the top of this page. Please note that registration for attendance at the 2013 NACSSC will close on May 17th, 2013.
